History: The child of western immigrants he idolized his mother. Gerard was born on a far western island where he grew up under the tutelage of his mother, an expert Ploughman. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to dire rats demanding more tribute than usual.

Personality: He is a hateful person. He taunts others and blames them for his problems. He does not trust anyone and sleeps with one eye open.

History: He was born several months after his father was called into army service. He couldn't stand his childhood mentor and eventually formed a pact with his mentor's previously failed apprentice to rebel. When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.
