His parents died when he was young, and he was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. John grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did John. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

Personality: She runs her personal life as if detached from it. She organizes appointments and outings based on perceived benefits she will get from it. She misses her home and complains about the freezing weather, even in summer.

History: Born to a Herbalist, her father struggled to pay the bills. She took every job she could get her hands on, but the opportunities for Humans in the north were limited. She left for the north, certain she would find work there.

Motivation: To get a good night's sleep.

Personality: He is irascible and easily irritated. He has all his life been fascinated with writing.

History: He was a bastard born out of an affair, and his father always resented and mistreated him for it out of spite. He has had some formal writing training, and achieved minor success. He has never given up on his writing dream.
