He got caught, but did not rat out his comrades and served his time in prison. He bought a scimitar and has really upped his game hunting, due to his understanding of decoy and ambush.

Motivation: He seems to be bored by most things; and he has decided he is irredeemable

Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Humans in Gerard's homeland. Gerard decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard.
