The family never returned to the plains due to the painful memories there. Hubert took refuge in the large cave and found the beat up shortspear and armor he uses now. Since then, he has sought to make the best of life.

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Brewer hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.
