Her father had died from a severe disease that was unknown to the village doctor. Jacoba was heart-stricken from the event, and her mother started working long hours to provde for them. She now owns her own business.

Unlike his family, who was content to work in a sleepy main town, he wanted to work in the city. He has been working here for the past few years.

Motivation: He has a rivalry with the Church that dominates his actions.

His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm father. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.
