History: He served in the navy to pay for his family's outstanding loans. He was married off to the eldest child of a minor noble. His spouse died of illness and he inherited everything. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by brigands. Bernard was horrified and prayed that his mother was alright. However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the brigands.

History: A powerful slaver made him what he is. His homeland was ravaged by war and he spent much of his life rebuilding it. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to brigands demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: A deep hatred of brigands; and his name or reputation has been wronged in the past by brigands, and he desires to right it
