Without his spouse to temper him he grew out of control. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

Her first spouse was a Carter, they had one son, but her spouse won total custody. Without her spouse to temper her she grew out of control. Since then, she has sought to make the best of life.
