It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

History: Born to a pair of adventurers, Margery grew up listening to her mother's many stories. From her teen years she was always beautiful and desirable, so people have always doted on her. She now spends her time doing works of charity.

History: Simon lived on a farm with his mother, near the main road leading to a nearby town. He was an apprentice working in his mother's forge. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his daughters to still be retired.

Motivation: Regain custody of his daughter.
