His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm mother. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to dire rats demanding more tribute than usual.

After coming to the age of reason, Sarah took it upon herself to study the druidic arts in their entirety; because of this, she was labeled a dark omen and banished from her homeland. She moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.
