His family became saddled with debt trying to care for his infirm father. When his spouse passed he lost his only source of income but claims to his sons to still be retired.

Motivation: He made a deal with a demon which lead to his current lot in life, and he's becoming increasingly nervous about it; and doesn't want to be a soapmaker and was forced into it by his family

History: A studious child she never was much for a social life, not because she was unlikable, but because she did not seek it out. Through the years after Katherine was born, her father became increasingly distant from her family, instead choosing to pursue power in the west. Katherine's father didn't care for her much, and the feeling was mutual. She inherited the family business which she has now maintained for 12 years.
