History: Ralf lived on a farm with his father, near the main road leading to a nearby town. His parents divorced when he was young, and his father gained full cudstody. He was regularly beaten by his father, who blamed him for driving them apart. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to dire rats demanding more tribute than usual.

History: She comes from a rich eastern family. When the war came and ruined her parents she was left adrift. She was a hard woman then and has only learned to fight more as time goes on. She has been saving her money to try and buy her sister's freedom.
