When she came of age, she applied for a position with her town's local guard, looking to work her way up via merit and eventually become a Paladin in service of a powerful lord somewhere. She was an athlete and attended two major summer competitions. She never won. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by gnolls. Ida was horrified and prayed that her mother was alright. However, she heard that her mother had died fighting off the gnolls.
