It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

His biggest love is that of knowledge and as such will purchase any books or pay to listen to tales that travelers might have.

History: Conrad was born in the west. At a young age he loved to build and create. In his 16th year, his parents were killed by a orcs raid, leaving Conrad alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, he was adopted. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by orcs. Conrad was horrified and prayed that his father was alright. However, he heard that his father had died fighting off the orcs.

History: He was raised happily, as a normal child born to his mother and father. His mother taught him the rudiments of the Dilettante arts, while his father instructed him in etiquette, music and courtly manner. He took every job he could get his hands on, but the opportunities for Humans in the south were limited. He left for the south, certain he would find work there.

History: Born to a Bricklayer, his father struggled to pay the bills. He was one of the best in his class, and was picked up by his current employer. He quickly showed his capability and was soon promoted to a head role. He has gone from town to town till he finds a spot where he can set up a sustainable business.
