History: Sold as a small child to a necromancer, Balimaar was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. He eventually earned his freedom when his former master disappeared. At some point he was captured by gnolls and was tortured. After several years of this he finally managed to escape. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.

Motivation: His name or reputation has been wronged in the past by gnolls, and he desires to right it; and a deep hatred of gnolls

Personality: Aggressive, abrasive, and angry, Miles embodies much of what other species detest in the Humans. He is used to getting what he wants. In part because he is a meticulous planner.

History: He was born in the north, but his parents moved at a very young age to the west. He made a point of taking high paying jobs and getting most of it up front. He left for the north, certain he would find work there.

Motivation: A need for knowledge about a nearby landmark; and meet up once more with his childhood friend

Personality: Eva is depressed about a lot of things. She tends to be a nihilist. Her brief stint in the army gave her the idea she was invincible and that she is the toughest woman alive.

History: Raised by wardens she was only a novice when dire rats swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. Her mother was a soldier and died while she was still young. Eva was left her mother's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by dire rats. Eva was horrified and prayed that her father was alright. However, she heard that her father had died fighting off the dire rats.

Motivation: Revenge; and many dire rats want her driven away

Personality: He has a massive crush on the younger sibling of the Shoemaker who has hired him part-time. The war was a terrible time for him, and Cory does not often speak of it. When he does, he does so with a strained expression and tears in his eyes.

History: He was born several months after his mother was called into army service. His father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his father was legitimate. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

Motivation: He wants to get laid; and he loathes his own lifestyle
