History: From birth she was tutored by a cruel and relentless mentor. In her 17th year, her parents were killed by a gnolls raid, leaving Mary alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, she was adopted. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to gnolls demanding more tribute than usual.

History: He was born at the edge of vast desert. A few years later when the south was not economically sound they moved to his current location. He left for the east, certain he would find work there.

Motivation: He is compelled to act according to his religious beliefs; and he feels threatened by others
