His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He left for the north, certain he would find work there.

He was mortally wounded, saved by a kind and fast-acting Human doctor. He was granted druidic powers by his dying brother.

Motivation: To reunite with his absent mother; and he has money and likes to spend it
