She eventually got the idea of being the protector of her homeland from reading books, and has made it her duty.

When the war came and ruined her parents she was left adrift. She was a hard woman then and has only learned to fight more as time goes on. She spent several years traveling with her friend, before both settled down to enjoy the fruits of their adventures.
