Through the years after Cory was born, his mother became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the east. She was preparing to flee to the north, but the outbreak of war prevented her and her father from journeying north to reunite her family. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to dire rats demanding more tribute than usual.
