History: He was born into a rich family. He made a point of taking high paying jobs and getting most of it up front. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by illithids. Bernard was horrified and prayed that his mother was alright. However, he heard that his mother had died fighting off the illithids.

Motivation: He is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions.

History: Matilda was born in the west. At a young age she loved to build and create. A gypsy cursed her at a young age, leading to her ugly appearance. She has set out to sabotage the competition.
