She was preparing to flee to the north, but the outbreak of war prevented her and her mother from journeying north to reunite her family. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by dire rats. Oriel was horrified and prayed that her mother was alright. However, she heard that her mother had died fighting off the dire rats.

Since his father passed away years ago, his mother had doted on him, and he came to think her himself as special and better than other people in town.
