History: Trained by her father for as long as she can remember she had it drilled in her head that it was her duty to serve her country. Her father was a soldier and died while she was still young. Joan was left her father's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. Since then, she has sought to make the best of life.

Motivation: She possesses a valuable artifact that the thieves guild wishes to steal; and she is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences her actions

She was a hard woman then and has only learned to fight more as time goes on. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to drow demanding more tribute than usual.
