When money was particularly tight she was walking through alleys when she overheard a Carter hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. Due to her spouse's obsession with being a Scribe they were divorced and she won custody of their son. She worked as a Carter, and she later adopted a second son.
