History: When she was but 6 years old her parents immigrated from the south. In her 11th year, her parents were killed by a dire rats raid, leaving Malquis alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, she was adopted. She ran away from her former home and has been making her living as a Dilettante for the past few years.

Motivation: To reunite with her absent father; and to be a bookbinder again

She was preparing to flee to the north, but the outbreak of war prevented her and her mother from journeying north to reunite her family. She now owns her own business.

History: Efferil lived on a farm with his father, near the main road leading to a nearby town. Ostracized due to the psionic powers of his oldest brother, he and his siblings struck out on their own.
