His father had invested heavily in several trade routes and wanted him to inherit them. Since then, he has sought to make the best of life.

History: He was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of his parents. Through the years after Richard was born, his mother became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the north.
