History: He was raised in a white middle class family as the only child. He was taken from his home at a very young age. Unlike his family, who was content to work in a sleepy main town, he wanted to work in the city. He has been working here for the past few years.

History: His history is one of pain. He was disowned by both parents and raised among the slaves his parents kept. The war was a terrible time for her, and Jacoba does not often speak of it. When she does, she does so with a strained expression and tears in her eyes.
