His mother had invested heavily in several trade routes and wanted him to inherit them. History: She was born at the edge of vast plains. She couldn't stand her childhood mentor and eventually formed a pact with her mentor's previously failed apprentice to rebel. When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. She left for the north, certain she would find work there.

History: She was born the only child of a wealthy merchant. In her formative years she discovered how persuasive she was. She began using that to her advantage selling useless wares at inflated prices. She now has a substantial network of resources ranging from contacts to ships to peers.
