Her uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took her in and had her trained in basic self defense. She has achieved small success as a Doctor.

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Priest hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.
