History: Trained by his mother for as long as he can remember he had it drilled in his head that it was his duty to serve his country. His father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his father was legitimate. Some 8 years later his spouse died after the birth of his daughter. Heartbroken, Xappan never married again. Instead he focused his life to raising his daughter whom he trained as his mother had trained him before.

Personality: She is erratic and paranoid. She believes gnolls are coming to abduct people. She moves from fascination to fascination almost instantaneously. If something can keep her interest for a month it is impressive.

History: She comes from a rich southern family. She struck it rich when she found rare goods in large quantities. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by gnolls. Merla was horrified and prayed that her mother was alright. However, she heard that her mother had died fighting off the gnolls.

This search led him directly into Hunter work with an outfit from a few towns over. Hunter work suited him well, and with each successful project, he earned more gold and more respect from his peers. He eventually got the idea of being the protector of his homeland from reading books, and has made it his duty.
