Upon awakening, Hecat discovered the rest of her party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Hecat fled the cavern, stopping for breath at a small pool, and only then realizing her own horrible transformation.

She was a general practitioner in the east for years, until she, through no fault of her own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal she made her way north. She ran away from her former home and has been making her living as a Cook for the past few years.
