It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

He found a children's book about a Tiefling Sorcerer who fought for good and justice and never realised it was just a child's story. History: Salasar was born with his father's beautiful face. Through the years after Salasar was born, his father became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the west. History: Sold as a small child to a slaver, Sariel was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. A few years later when the north was not economically sound they moved to her current location. Lacking all sense, she decided to go on an adventure. She picked a direction and started trekking.
