During her travels, Keyleth and her party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Keyleth discovered the rest of her party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Keyleth fled the cavern, stopping for breath at a small pool, and only then realizing her own horrible transformation.

History: Ella was born with her mother's beautiful face. She dropped out of school before completing her studies. She routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.

History: She was born on a small isolated farm. She sought a place where she would be rewarded solely on the merits of her skills. Dilettante work suited her well, and with each successful project, she earned more gold and more respect from her peers. She's also a talented Brewer, but doesn't like to broadcast it.

History: He was a bastard born out of an affair, and his mother always resented and mistreated him for it out of spite. His mother had invested heavily in several trade routes and wanted him to inherit them. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to brigands demanding more tribute than usual.

History: He was born several months after his father was called into army service. He graduated from the Naval Academy and went to see the world at the rank of Ensign. He advanced relatively quickly due to his good work ethic, understanding of the chain of command, and natural leadership ability. Some 9 years later his spouse died after the birth of his son.
