He was regularly beaten by his father, who blamed him for driving them apart. During his travels, Elegant and his party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Elegant discovered the rest of his party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. His spouse died of illness and he inherited everything. Lacking all sense, he decided to go on an adventure. He picked a direction and started trekking.
