He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.

History: She was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of her parents. Her parents died when she was young, and she was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Alain grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Alain. She routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.
