History: She is a Deep Scion in disguise. Her father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but she insists her father was legitimate. She has became unsatisfied with her lot in life, and decided to take up adventuring.

When money was particularly tight she was walking through alleys when she overheard a Dyer hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. She is searching for what she claims is her rightful reward.

History: She served in the navy to pay for her family's outstanding loans. In her 17th year, while out on a day-trip, she returned to find her hometown burning and destroyed. She found her father impaled in their home, and her mother beheaded. She saw the woman who walked out, and charged her in a blind rage. The woman easily evaded and defeated her, leaving her to live broken and terrified. Some 10 years later her spouse died after the birth of her son. Heartbroken, Volen never married again. Instead she focused her life to raising her son whom she trained as her father had trained her before.
