History: She was raised in a white middle class family as the only child. In her 16th year, her parents were killed by a brigands raid, leaving Shifting alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, she was adopted. She became a Tanner soon after.

She was a general practitioner in the west for years, until she, through no fault of her own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal she made her way north. She was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.
