It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. She has done her darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

He found a children's book about a Tabaxi Ranger who fought for good and justice and never realised it was just a child's story. He modeled his life after the story, seeing himself destined a hero. He has drifted apart from his friends and has been working freelance. Each gave each other a copy of their signature scythe.
