Motivation: She is currently in port desperately looking for someone to get her out; and a strong sense of loyalty to half-elven people

When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Spice Merchant hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. After a long history of fighting, Gilbert and his spouse have recently divorced.
