He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to gnolls demanding more tribute than usual.

This search led her directly into Bookbinder work with an outfit from a few towns over. Bookbinder work suited her well, and with each successful project, she earned more gold and more respect from her peers. She tends to her Bookbinder job now, and dutifully fulfills any obligations she has.
