History: Barakas was born the youngest of three triplets. Being born in the west, he completed his medical training abroad so as to avoid the war. He returned after the war having achieved medical proficiency. He was a general practitioner in the west for years, until he, through no fault of his own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal he made his way north. He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to giants demanding more tribute than usual.

History: Born in the west to a Bowyer, Merla learned a great deal about her father's area of expertise. Her father disappeared, and while she tried to raise money to find her father, she was betrayed dozens of times. She has gone from town to town till she finds a spot where she can set up a sustainable business.

Motivation: To reunite with her absent father.
