History: Serpent hails from a village terrorized by dire rats. His family was turned out during the war. He and his family wandered west to less war torn lands. He left for the west, certain he would find work there.

Motivation: He is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences his actions; and many dire rats want him driven away
