Marastyr grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Marastyr. She left for the east, certain she would find work there.

History: She was raised by priests from a young age. Her mother was very strict, and drilled into her lessons on being the perfect lady. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by giants. Katherine was horrified and prayed that her father was alright. However, she heard that her father had died fighting off the giants.
