History: Sold as a small child to a slaver, Rinn was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. A gifted student she started as a Courier, but she got bored and became a Engraver. She has set out to sabotage the competition.

Motivation: Balancing her hectic life and new Painter responsibilities is difficult.

History: Heir to a fortune, his parents put a great deal of effort into curing his disease. He has had some formal writing training, and achieved minor success. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.
