History: He was born in the west, but his parents moved at a very young age to the south. A gifted student he started as a Bookbinder, but he got bored and became a Mercenary. He tends to his Mercenary job now, and dutifully fulfills any obligations he has.

History: When she was but 6 years old her parents immigrated from the south. At a young age both her parents were killed in an accident. Her uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took her in and had her trained in basic self defense. She has drifted apart from her friends and has been working freelance. Each gave each other a copy of their signature glaive.

Motivation: She is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences her actions; and her relatives are trying to arrange a marriage

She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to giants demanding more tribute than usual.
