The mother sought out extralegal help and others began closing their doors. She saw this and took pride in her mother's willingness to do anything to win. She left for the south, certain she would find work there.

His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He has been saving his money to try and buy his brother's freedom.

History: Sold as a small child to a necromancer, Hrathy was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. Her mother disappeared, and while she tried to raise money to find her mother, she was betrayed dozens of times. She has set out to sabotage the competition.

Motivation: She wants random interesting trinkets and junk, hates to throw anything away; and she'd like to take her coworkers down a peg
