He has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to drow demanding more tribute than usual.

Motivation: He wants revenge against drow; and his name or reputation has been wronged in the past by drow, and he desires to right it

His mother was a soldier and died while he was still young. Gildmak was left his mother's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. He's since become an addict/alcoholic.

Motivation: Wants his loneliness to end; and he wants nothing more than to rejoin the army
