He was preparing to flee to the west, but the outbreak of war prevented him and his mother from journeying west to reunite his family. He left for the west, certain he would find work there.

She was mortally wounded, saved by a kind and fast-acting Tiefling doctor. Some 6 years later her spouse died after the birth of her daughter. Heartbroken, Jacoba never married again. Instead she focused her life to raising her daughter whom she trained as her mother had trained her before.
