She was regularly beaten by her mother, who blamed her for driving them apart. After a long history of fighting, Georgina and her spouse have recently divorced.

Perhaps she's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that she plain doesn't fit in. She then took over the family business and is one of the better Apothecary for hire.
