Personality: A grumpy guy he will invite people to lunch so he can critique them. Yet he still seems generally likeable, like a lovable grump. His respect, as difficult as one would find it to earn, is unwavering; those who more than prove themselves to him, a bar set well above any reasonable standard, he tolerates in varying degrees. Though less modest and more hasty in his reactions to snap at those who irritate him, Miles is combative with any and all who dare try his patience in the slightest.

History: He was a bastard born out of an affair, and his father always resented and mistreated him for it out of spite. Through the years after Miles was born, his father became increasingly distant from his family, instead choosing to pursue power in the north. Miles's father didn't care for him much, and the feeling was mutual. He has made many enemies by not giving into corruption and outing many instances of it.

History: He was born a particularly ugly child, much to the horror of his parents. His first spouse was a Carter, they had one son, but his spouse won total custody. Without his spouse to temper him he grew out of control. Due to his spouse's obsession with being a Carter they were divorced and he won custody of their son. He worked as a Fortune-teller, and he later adopted a second son.

Personality: He tends to agree with only himself unless someone else's opinion sounds like he can profit from it. He tries to control his temper but he can't always stop himself from what he feels what must be done. He will do just about anything if he becomes convinced it is for someone's true love, of this he is easily convinced.

History: He was born with several neurological imbalances, which makes sleep difficult for him. It may also be what makes him so good at details. His parents divorced when he was young, and his father gained full cudstody. He was regularly beaten by his father, who blamed him for driving them apart. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.

She wears a deerstalker hat to hide her balding. Her voice is smooth and creepy, always level, but somehow just slightly unnerving.

Personality: She dislikes all the random violence that takes place in the north. She is fiercely devoted to her mother, and views her mother's ex-spouse as an evil person for separating her from her legal half-brother.

History: Falkrunn was born the youngest of three triplets. Being born in the north, she completed her medical training abroad so as to avoid the war. She returned after the war having achieved medical proficiency. She was a general practitioner in the north for years, until she, through no fault of her own, lost a patient who had a very powerful family. Rather than risk reprisal she made her way east. She has since lost track of the people in her past.
