In her 12th year, her parents were killed by a brigands raid, leaving Bella alone in the world. After a stint in an orphanage, she was adopted. During her travels, Bella and her party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Bella discovered the rest of her party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Bella fled the cavern, stopping for breath at a small pool, and only then realizing her own horrible transformation.
