Her spouse died of illness and she inherited everything. During her travels, Juliana and her party rested in a cavern that was (unknown to them) infused with powerful dark magic. Upon awakening, Juliana discovered the rest of her party dead, transformed into horrible, mindless undead versions of their former selves. Juliana fled the cavern, stopping for breath at a small pool, and only then realizing her own horrible transformation.

The father sought out extralegal help and others began closing their doors. She saw this and took pride in her father's willingness to do anything to win. She left for the north, certain she would find work there.

Personality: She likes to be helpful to her clients. She likes to prescribe proper advice to her clients. The occasional robbery is her preferred attention getting crime, but she mainly uses her means for meeting her own perverse desires.

History: Heir to a fortune, her parents put a great deal of effort into curing her disease. Her parents died when she was young, and she was unceremoniously dumped in the city orphanage. Mastema grew up in the orphanage, tormented by the older kids and famished from lack of food. To avoid death by starvation, most orphans take to a life of crime or prostitution (often both), and so did Mastema. Being a Layabout kept her interest for a while, but then she became depressed and bored. So she turned to a secret life of crime, taking increasingly more risks and challenges.
